Up Stallions For Sale Training

Our recipe for success for good, dependable riding horses is: Start with horses that are naturally gaited (foxtrot in the field long before they are ridden), people friendly and sound.  Add a good dose of time and patience.  Begin with the basics - ground work, manners and respect and add another big dose of time and patience.

We train both our own horses and also accept a few outside horses for training.  If you are interested in having your horse trained, please contact us.

Our young horses are trained on site - typically starting when they are born.  As foals/weanlings they are taught to lead, stand when being handled, trim, bathe, load and be respectful on the ground.  They are pasture raised so they are exposed to other horses and learn how to be a proper horse.

After they have matured, both mentally and physically - typically somewhere around 2 or 3 years of age - they start with their "formal training".  The training is done by Robert and our friend and trainer, Darryl Henderson.  Darryl has a strong training background with variety of types of gaited and non-gaited horses and mules.

The "formal" training starts on the ground.  They are taught to be respectful and behave on the ground and to stand when being saddled and mounted  After saddling they are ridden in the round pen and the area - learning the basics - Stand, Stop and Steer.  Typically they are worked with for 60 to 90 days before they are taken on their first trail ride.

Every horse is different and we allow them to progress at their own speed - we ride them at a walk and then progress into a flat footed walk.  When we feel they are ready, we ask them to foxtrot.
