The Missouri Foxtrotter horse can come in almost every horse color known. Some are very common, such as sorrel. Other colors, such as champagne and silver dapple are somewhat rare in the breed. The Missouri Foxtrotter is a relatively new breed of horse and has a moderately small gene pool, therefore some genetic traits that are uncommon or even nonexistent in other breeds are common in the foxtrotter breed. One such phenomena is the recessive curly gene that has only been reported in the foxtrotter breed. Sorrel/Chestnut is by far the most common color. Palomino and grey are also easy to find. Black horses, rare in many breeds, seem to be fairly common in the foxtrotter breed (probably due to selective breeding).
